Our Origins

The Royal Perth Hospital Medical Research Foundation’s first major investment was in the late 1980s, with the construction of a six-storey biomedical research facility in the Perth CBD.

Since then, this facility has grown to become a research powerhouse on the Royal Perth Hospital Campus, attracting high quality investigators from a number of institutions. These include The University of Western Australia, Curtin University and the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research.

Bringing these investigators together in one purpose-built location has encouraged a rich interaction and integration between Foundation-based research activities and hospital clinical research, evidenced by more than 150 trials underway at the hospital at any one time.
